The PQ just issued a statement: all "Québec citizens" will have the right to run, including non-francophones automatically granted Québec citizenship, i.e. Canadian citizens living in
Québec when the law comes into force and their descendants. I still disagree with the project, but at least anyone that currently
has the right to run would keep it.
Of course, this begs the question: Was
Marois hopelessly confused? Or was the PQ actually floating a trial
balloon to see how people would react to denying fundamental democratic
rights to a minority? Either way, not reassuring...
